Update regarding access to the new qualifications



Update regarding access to the new qualifications for those with the previous Certificate APT and those with the previous Certificate and Diploma APT

As the new qualifications are Ofqual accredited and the Level 3 & 4 Diploma forming the basis of the BSc (Hons) APT it is expected that all modules of the Level 3 Diploma will have been achieved to progress to the Levels 4 and so on to the levels 5 & 6

Certificate Holders Only

For those APTs holding the certificate only –  access to the Level 4 Diploma will be granted upon completion of the Level 3 Diploma in full due to the disparity in the syllabus requirements and the assessment methods now undertaken

Certificate & Diploma Holders

For those APTs holding the Certificate & Diploma – access to the Level 5 will be granted upon completion of a Level 3 Diploma top up then full completion of the Level 4 Diploma – again this is due to disparity in the syllabus requirements and the assessment methods now undertaken

The Level 3 top up will consist of:

4 modules of the Level 3 Diploma (2 x theory, 2 x practical) and a portfolio of quality CPD evidence pertaining to the other 6 Level 3 Diploma modules, a telephone viva with a registered RSPH centre an internal and external verification of the process / assessments and the students work.

Modules requiring completion in full:

•             Unit APT3.4 - Microbiology and Infection Control for APTs - 1 exam and 1 assignment – theory module

•             Unit APT3.5 - Principles of effective communication for APTs – 1 assignment – theory module

•             Unit APT3.9 - Team working – portfolio evidence

•             Unit APT 3.11 – Viewing of the deceased – portfolio evidence

Modules for which CPD / Portfolio evidence can be gathered as evidence of prior learning:

•             Unit APT3.1: Human anatomy and physiology for APTs

•             Unit APT3.2: Governance and administration of mortuary practices

•             Unit APT3.3: Health and safety in the mortuary

•             Unit APT3.6A: Assist with post mortem examinations

•             Unit APT3.7 Preparation and operation of a mortuary

•             Unit APT3.8 Prepare for post mortem examinations

Once the top up is complete the RSPH registered centre will then issue a certificate to the student which can be presented to the University holding the Level 4 as evidence that the student has attained learning comparable to the Level 3 Diploma.
