The Future of Professional Registration for APTs

In June members of the VRC were consulted about a potential move of its registers to the Academy of Healthcare Science; the results of that consultation were very positive and the move in now in progress.

The Voluntary Registration Council (VRC) currently holds and manages the register for APTs.   At midnight on August 31st 2014 all persons and professions registered with the VRC will move across to the AHCS. All members of the VRC will shortly be receiving a letter in relation to data protection; please read and understand that letter; It is a opt-out letter.

If you still wish to be registered as an APT and are happy for your registration information to be held by the Academy you DO NOT need to do anything. Your registration will automatically transfer at midnight on Monday 1st September 2014.

In October your renewal letter will come from the Academy and your professional registration will be renewed with the Academy of Healthcare Science.

A CPD audit is scheduled for October 2014; this will still go ahead. If you are selected you will be notified in October at the time of your renewal. The criteria for the CPD audit will remain the same and full details will be given if you are selected.

What does this mean for APT’s who are not yet registered?
The VRC is still welcoming and accepting applications from APTs up until 31st August 2014.
If you apply for registration on or after 31st August 2014 your application will be made to the Academy of Healthcare Science and not the VRC.

There are two routes to registration for APTs.  The Direct route is for APT’s who holds the Diploma qualification; the Four year route for APTs who hold the Certificate qualification and have the minimum of two years post certificate experience.

These two routes to registration will be taken over by the Academy of Healthcare Science and will remain open for the foreseeable future.

However the “grandparent” route for APTs with 6 or more years experience, but who do don’t hold the Certificate qualification will close on August 31st 2014.
