Modernising Scientific Careers (MSC) - workforce statistics

A report from AAPT council member Ishbel Gall on Modernising Scientific Careers

James Lowell and I met with members of the Modernising Scientific Careers (MSC) group in December to discuss how MSC will affect APTs across the country.

Although MSC is aimed at the NHS it will ultimately affect Public Mortuary staff as well due to it having a bearing on future qualification needs and workplace opportunities. We are reaching a very important stage in our future career planning affecting all APTs and need accurate workforce statistics to submit to the Department of Health. If we cannot get these figures then this may affect the future for all APTs. We need to have this information before our next meeting in February.

What I need is the MSC query form filled in for every mortuary in the UK. If you know of any mortuaries in your area with no AAPT members then I would be grateful if you could forward this to them or direct them to this article. If you cannot download the form please contact me directly and I will send one electronically.

There are two pages, one for NHS and one for local authority employees. If you fall into another category let me know!!

If I get duplicates that is not a problem but try and get someone senior in your workplace to take responsibility for filling in the form and returning it to me via email, or mail if necessary. Any queries don’t hesitate to get in touch with me and I will respond as quickly as possible. I need to have the forms returned by 31st January so that I have time to collate the information.

Thanks
