In recognition of close working links and synergies of roles, the AAPT formally announce a specialist partnership with Bereavement Services Association and the Coroner’s Officers Association.

Following discussions regarding support for staff and services undertaking the Medical Examiner Officer role and function, we would like to take this opportunity to update you on our progress.

The partnership met in March and again in April and have discussed and agreed how our professional groups may be able to provide support for this pivotal role in the future.

In recognition that the person undertaking the MEO function will cover the dying, death and immediate bereavement period, it is anticipated that the individual will likely be from one of the partnership professions. It was therefore agreed that a specialist partnership group would be jointly developed and facilitated by the AAPT, BSA, and COA.

We hope that this unified approach by our three national professional associations will provide reassurance that ongoing expert information, guidance and support will be provided for the MEO role and function.

Yours sincerely,
