Death certification reforms - improving death certification and patient care
Overview
The government has recently published draft regulations and accompanying guidance on reforms to death certification and registration, including the medical examiner system moving to a statutory footing and the introduction of new medical certificates. Dr Suzy Lishman will describe the changes and potential benefits of the changes.
Speaker profile
Dr Suzy Lishman CBE is a consultant histopathologist, medical examiner and President of the Association of Clinical Pathologists.
She is also the Senior Advisor on Medical Examiners at the Royal College of Pathologists and has been working on death certification reform for over a decade. Suzy chaired the RCPath Death Certification Committee for four years, has trained over 2000 medical examiners, is author of the Cause of Death List and co-editor of the only medical examiner text book.
