Council & Committees

The AAPT has a Council and Committee structure to support membership in professional and any other issues relating to anatomical pathology technology. In addition to the honorary roles of the President, Chair, Vice-Chair and Treasurer, ordinary Council members are elected each year at the AGM.

Each appointed Council member is required to be registered with the VRC and to serve on Council for a three-year term of office. It will also be likely that a Council member will sit on one of the seven committees that have been formed for the benefit of members.

Conference Planning

Remit: Each year the AAPT host an annual one-day conference – with a trade exhibition and full social programme. The planning of such an event takes a huge effort and the AAPT is always looking for support from members to ensure a successful conference. In 2011, the conference was held in Glasgow. In 2012 the event will move to Bristol. Suggestions for suitable speakers are always welcome.

Federation for Healthcare Science (and Scottish Federation)

Useful link: http://www.fedhcs.net

Remit: The Federation was formed in 2002 as an overarching body for the professional organisations representing healthcare scientists. The government recognises healthcare scientists as vital to the delivery of its NHS Plan for England but the public is often unaware of the contribution they make to the services provided by the NHS. The Federation will provide a collective voice for science in the health service to the government, other health care professionals and to members of the public.

The AAPT is a member body of the Federation and has full representation on the Life Sciences Executive Committee of this organisation.

The professional representation is to work with members to represent the AAPT at meetings such as Victims Voice meetings and anywhere where an anatomical pathology technologist voice should be heard. The AAPT would love to hear from member’s who are keen to represent the profession at various forums.
