Current position and future intentions:
A letter was sent out to the South West region AAPT membership on 21/10/08 asking for volunteers to create a steering group fro the purposes of forming a South West regional forum of the AAPT.
As an indication of how members are feeling about their current professional position within 24hrs a response was gained and the first volunteer for the steering group was found. Now ten days on the steering group is almost in a position to be formed. It was agreed that a representative steering group would consist of six members and a council representative. At this point we have five volunteer group members which I feel will be adequate to continue with if there are no further volunteers.
The aim of the group will be to include all APT and not just AAPT members and when the group is in a more stable position, an invitation will be sent to all mortuaries in the area to ask if there are any interested non AAPT members who wish to contribute.
I feel it would be prudent to have a cut off date for volunteers for the steering group and I suggest that this be one month from the date of the initial invite. If council wish to extend this time I have no objections. When this date has been reached a letter will be sent to all volunteers confirming grateful acceptance of their offer of help and a meeting will be arranged. After informal conversations with those who have already volunteered, a meeting date towards the end of Jan 2009 seems to be a preferred option. The direction of the regional group will be discussed at this meeting and I feel it would be best to suggest that the format already agreed on for the London and South east region be followed.
Kind regards,
Sam Goss.
